Methodology

How we measure and validate true yield performance

True-Value Measurement through Direct Deposits

We deposit directly into the various protocols and track the deposit growth. This approach ensures we calculate the actual net returns that depositors receive after costs and fees. By doing so, we avoid reliance on the often-optimistic yield figures displayed on websites.

Daily Tracking and Data Quality

All deposit amounts are tracked daily, with snapshots taken at 02:00 UTC. Data is logged through on-chain records, protocol APIs, or simulated withdrawals - whichever most accurately reflects real withdrawal outcomes. By selecting or combining the most reliable sources, we ensure our records closely mirror the actual user experience.

Standardised Yield Comparison

To enable fair comparisons across protocols, Fundamental calculates APY figures independently using a consistent daily compounding formula:

APY=(1+APR/365)365−1

This approach ensures a transparent and reliable basis for evaluating performance across different yield sources.

Accounting for Fees

All displayed yield figures are net of fees, with full breakdowns provided in the details. This ensures fair comparison across protocols that may charge various fees, including entry, exit, performance, or management fees.

For one-time fees, we assume users deposit once and exit only after a full year, applying entry and exit fees only once. Users who move funds more frequently will experience lower effective yields due to additional transaction costs.

Fee Explanations

Entry Fees

Applied to the initial deposit amount before yield generation begins.

Performance Fees

Typically charged as a percentage of realised profits, calculated after any applicable management fees. These fees apply directly to profits earned.

Management Fees

Typically a percentage of the total asset value deposited.

Exit Fees

Applied to the total amount when withdrawing from the protocol.
